God for All

Broken for Me (part 4)

Forgiveness is not a matter of the heart or mind; it is a state of being. When we can forgive ourselves for errs we make as humans than we can also learn to hold ourselves to a higher place – God’s world.

Forgiveness does not mean that we must forget the trespasses we have committed on others or theirs on us. Pastor Bill, “Here; Forgiveness is commanded by God and we must forgive others, as I teach it, it is not a feeling or an emotion but a choice. (Matthew 6:12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. )  (Matthew 6:15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.) Unforgiveness is like taking poison and waiting for the other person to die. Forgiveness is truly for us not the other person.” History cannot be erased; it can be used as a guiding light.

Micah 7:8

Rejoice not against me, O mine enemy: when I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, the LORD shall be a light unto me.

We make our own light when we allow God to walk us through the valley of the shadow of darkness.

We make our own path when we step in God’s footprints.

Our world may be broken but light still shines!

Luke 11:34

The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light but when thing eye is evil, they body also is full of darkness.

Taking a step back for a moment, I want to bring us to how Pastor Bill started this sermon.

Q: So, you’re a Bears fan?

A: Yeah. I certainly am.

Q: Have you been to Soldier Field lately?

A: No, I have never been there.

Q: You watch the Bears on TV, then?
A: I seldom watch them play.

Q: Then you listen to games on the radio?

A: Nope, never have.

Q: But you are a Bears fan, right?
A: Oh, definitely.

Q: So, who do you think is the best player this year?
A: I’m not sure who’s on the team.

Q: Well, what do you think of the job the coach is doing?
A: I’m not sure who he is.

Q: How can you be a Bears fan? You sure don’t act like one!

A: …

So, do you judge this person as not a Bears fan or do you trust him at his word?

Trust is not about hearing the answers you want to hear.

Believing is not about seeing what you want to see.

Forgiveness is not about forgetting what has happened to you.
