Creche (part 1)

What I want to know is when did we go from Deck the Halls with boughs of holly to this …

(footnote: Sorry if any of this offends our viewing audience. It is meant as an example only, not to be crass.)

I know that many of you ask the same question, as well as have more of the experience found in the parody as opposed to the true meaning found in the original version as so wonderfully sung by James Taylor, with a hint of Madrigal instrumental. I, for one, suffered through 45 hours of sleeplessness to go broke only to score on much coveted Black Friday treasures. Add in the Walmart experience of crazed, sleep deprived, Mom’s trying to get PJs. It was less Mom like and more animalistic as we dove in, head first, elbows out, hands grabbing, pushing, shoving, and throwing PJs to the one or two people we befriended for the sake of getting the most, the fastest, and having the best assortment. Seriously, you could hog a rack of these babies and black market them for a slight profit.

Not the Hope Diamond…

Not a Lamborghini…

Not eternal salvation…

Not some inspirational famous person…

And not even a name brand…

Basic Walmart PJs!!

Yet, there we were, wolves on the hunt. Once the prey was in sight we stalked it, carefully marking our territory and plan of attack. Hands at the ready. Hearts pounding. The plastic wrap cut and removed. Then the words uttered from the one lone worker, “Go ahead,” spoken calmly, quietly, to the honed ears of the pack. Upon the utterance of the slightest hint (it was the guh sound from the “g”) the pack lunged into the pile of sleeping pajamas grabbing, pushing, throwing, and marching away without even knowing what part of the kill they had coveted but they each knew that a piece of the frenzy was theirs. The sense of triumph followed by the true reply of shamefulness at the behavior spawned by … what … the hunt? necessity? the success? or just the desire to say they did it and survived? Less dignity but cheap pajamas.

How is it that our society has come to this place?

Is it a product of commercialism?

A lack of economic support for all the people?

Whatever the true answer, it is one that has lost all meaning for what we really should be focusing on at this time of year.

PCC obviously has the right idea about how to remind all of us about the true meaning of the season – from gift giving to celebrating through song, story and the comfort of those around us.

Do you want to experience all that happen on November 24, 2012?

Are you ready to be exposed to the true meaning of fellowship, song, scripture?

Are you ready to bring it all home to God through faithful meaning, and the pride of the message?

If you answered yes to even one of these questions, then you will get the full depth of what we are going to bring you.

If you answered no, please stay with us and maybe you too will find the spirit moving within you to conceptualize all that the 61st annual Creche Lighting celebration has to offer.

For now, I leave you with this…
