God for All

A recent news report stated that charitable giving is down again for the second straight year.  That even the larger charities are experiencing problems due to the short fall.  With the holiday season almost upon us, it may be time to start thinking of what we might be able to do this year to help others.

The “On this day, God wants you to know” message I received the other day was about giving.  The message was:  ” … that generosity will make you rich. The best thing to do if you’re feeling poor is to give something away. Give a few dollars to a homeless person, some clothes to a thrift store or pay for the person behind you at the drive through. Instead of focusing on what you don’t have, focus on what you do have and how you can bless others with it.  Being able to give is a divine gift in itself.”

During the holiday shopping season, there seems to be either a Salvation Army kettle or a group outside of every store entrance asking for donations.  I always try to keep a bunch of change in my pockets so that I can give to each.  I can’t give a lot of money, but I can give a little bit where I can.

Here are a few ideas of how you can help others this year … and one is even free!  Feel free to post your favorite charities to help us be aware of other opportunities to give  …   (backpacks are sent home with needy children with food for the weekend)  (play a word quiz game and a rice donation will be made through the UN World Food Program)
